Rihanna Takes It Up A Notch!

She has been criticised for her video's lately such as 'S&M' and as her new single address's the topic of gunning a man down, I was ready to see what the red-haired songstress had in store for us.

'Man Down' a reggae track, which was co-written with R&B star Shontelle Layne, speaks of Rihanna shooting a man down. Listening to the song you assume the man killed is a lover of Rihanna who maybe cheated or hurt her some way to which she ends his life and confides to her mum.

Watching the video I was bored for the first 4mins of it and the length is only 5mins and 40secs long, which is way past the half mark post. It conveys a pretty Rihanna living, what I assume a typical life lead by a young girl in Jamaica. Bike riding, taking a stroll with her girlfriends chit chatting (probably discussing the latest bleached cream or what colour weave she should purchase next). Simple life.

She takes the video to a next level when it shows her at a house party and is dancing with a fellow yardy fella. As she leaves the party, she is followed by the same guy who later rapes her. Its a hard subject to tackle and Rihanna did it very well.

Rape is a topic which is not talked about. Yes we see it on TV soaps and Crimewatch and we probably hear stories. Between 75% and 95% of rape crimes are never reported to the police because majority of the victims believe it is a personal or private matter, and that they fear reprisal from the assailant.

RiRi tweeted about the new video for the reggae track, she wrote: “Very strong underlying message 4 girls like me! #listentoyomama."....

After watching the video, I have an even more respect and love for the Barbadian beauty.

Here's the video to 'Man Down'. Let me know your thoughts on it and the topic itself.
